IGNORANCE AND NIGERIA CIVILIZATION A CASE STUDY (part one)
According to research, instead of the number of illiterate to depreciate, there is a hike in The number every year in Nigeria. One may tend to ask what could be the problem. Is it poor funding in the education sector by the government? Or the masses who vehemently refuse going to school in the name of trying to save their cultural values? Or the niherian government officials who manage this established schools?
According to statistics, Nigeria is a country of over 180 million people has 10.3million of it children out of school! And over 38 million adults who are illiterate (can't read nor write).
Education statistic of world bank shows that in 2013, the number of illiterate adult in Nigeria is 35 million compare to that of 1997 which is 25million!. If you are to find the difference, it means in about 16 years, Nigeria rate of illiterate increase by a whooping 10million! And these numbers of ignorant people is disasterous for a growing economy like nigeria.
The population of youth who are illiterate is also on the rise. We see that in 1991, according to world bank, the population of ignorant youths is peg at about 5.1 million! Which increases to 8.7 million in 2003 and subsequently in 2008, it rises to abou 9.68million! Where did Nigeria missed it? Is a question every reasonable Nigerian need to ask himself. Is our own civilization born out of ignorance?
"Is our own civilization born out of ignorance"
The number of our children out of school is alarming. 10.3million? How did we get to this bad state in our educational system? Is this how the British left for us or is these what earn them the title of been our colonial masters? We need to fo back to our drawing board, see were we missed it,correct it,enact laws to sustained it and make it free of corruption.
The united States, Britain ,China etc are world economy giants today because of how their educational sector was build. They stole all the best brains off our shores and give them the best that they wouldn't get anywhere. They give them scholarship and grant on a condition of working for them after graduation. Nigeria can do same! We are Africa biggest state, then let's act like the big brother that we ARE. Let our government builds world standard schools instead of the many international airport that is only 3 that is working. Sell of the presidential fleet jets and pursued this vision that will benefit the whole of Africa. I am appealing to our government to do this and also attract the best brains to our shores through scholarship and grants.
These will go a long way to solve Nigeria problem of illiteracy. We can have university that can admit the over 4million jamb applicants instead of admitting only 9hundred thousand students. Our government should consider my piece toward the nation building.
Thank you.
Thank you for reading please help share it until the government get to see it.
